Urinalysis

At the end of this course, students should be able to: 

1. Identify the following sediment constituents on 35 mm Kodachrome slides as well as microscopic slides and computer-generated images:
• Red Blood Cells
• White Blood Cells
• Epithelial cells
• Bacteria
• Yeast
• Trichomonas
• Spermatozoa
• Mucus
• Casts
• Crystals
• Artifacts

2. Describe how urines are processed in our laboratory.

3. Identify steps to be taken when abnormal results are obtained when performing a urinalysis on a patient’s specimen.

4. Describe the principles of testing in Urinalysis.
